Richard "Dick" Gibson

Richard “Dick” Ramon Gibson, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Great grandfather, currently of Rigby, Idaho, formerly of Mount Gilead, Ohio passed away at the age of 94 in his home on Monday, May 25, 2020.  Dick was born on March 12, 1926 in Mansfield, Ohio to Curtis William Gibson and Edna Josephine Yoakam.

He attended and graduated from Mansfield High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1944, where he was a Corporal in the Medical Core. He was honorably discharged into the Air Force reserve.

Dick married Leila “June” Ziegler on June 12, 1946 in Napoleon, Ohio, and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary before June’s death. To this union they added three daughters: Melodee Ann, Holly Beth (still born) and Marie Carmen (still born).  He lived in Williamsport, Ohio and in 2008 at the age of 84 decided he wanted to be closer to family and made the long trek to Idaho.

Dick had many professions during his life, as a jewelry salesman for Shaw (where he met June ), Jewelers, Fox Jewelers and Dunkin Jewelers in Mansfield. He worked for General Motors (Body by Fisher) in Mansfield, Ohio; he had the first automated line in the Mansfield GM plant. Dick became a supervisor in his last years and retired after thirty-one years of service.

He loved playing Baseball in his youth, but his number one love was golf.  He had many stories of golfing trips to Myrtle Beach, SC., where he hit his first hole in one at Willowbrook Golf Course, for many years you could always count on the golf channel being on TV.  He had a talent for carving and created many pieces until his hands could no longer work.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints  where he served as a Counselor in the Mansfield Ward Bishopric, and also served many years as a family history consultant with his wife June.

He is survived by his daughter Melodee Ann Davis (Roy) of Driggs, ID; granddaughters (who lovingly referred to him as Pop) Brandie Michelle Hathaway (Drex) of St. Anthony, ID and Jessica Annette Leavitt (Michael) of Twin Falls, ID; 8 great grandchildren (4 great grand-in-laws), 1 great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews and his two sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Holly Beth and Carmen Marie, his wife June, parents Curtis and Edna Gibson and Brothers Jimmie Dean and David William. The family would like to thank the great neighbors and friends in Meadowbrook subdivision. Condolences may be sent to www.valleymortuarydriggs.com.  Per his request, no service will be held.
