Mollyanne Johnston

June 11, 1947 — January 1, 2020

At the age of 72 years, in the early hours of January 1, 2020, Molly Johnston passed away in her home in Jackson.

Mollyanne Johnston (McNeil) was born on June 11, 1947 in Pasadena, California, to Robert and Marjorie McNeil. As the oldest sibling to sisters Laurie and Holly and brother Scott, she grew up in La Crescenta, California.

After graduating from Crescenta Valley High School in 1965, Molly attended Glendale City College, where as a cheerleader she met John Johnston who played on the football team.  They knew they had found their partners in life on their very first date.  She married her loving husband John on June 8, 1968 in La Canada, California.  A dedicated wife, Molly showed unwavering bravery and support of John during his 28 years working for the LAPD. As John always said, “Molly is my hero”.

Molly and John went on to have four children, Samantha, Erin, Joseph, and Amanda.  From 1969 to 1997 they raised their family in Arcadia, California. Upon her retirement from the Ralphs Grocery Company in 1997, where she proudly worked for 26 years, Molly and John moved to and built the retirement home of their dreams in Jackson, Wyoming. Here in Jackson, Molly instantly found “her community.”  For the next 22 ½ years, she had several jobs, including working for the Teton County Sheriff’s Department, buying, running, and selling J-H Flat Creek Automotive, and lastly working at Smith’s Grocery Store. Always warm and friendly, Molly couldn’t walk through town, especially Smith’s, without someone stopping to chat with her.

Outside of her professional life, Molly loved living in Jackson.  She could often be found taking innumerable pictures of the moose, deer, and other wildlife that crossed through her property, a sight that never failed to excite her.  Molly enjoyed cooking for a crowd and was the prefect hostess, always opening her home to friends and family. Christmas Eve dinners at the Johnston’s were always memorable.

Molly and John could often be found taking drives and road trips around Jackson and across the country.  A perfect “Co-pilot” to John, they traversed the United States visiting family, friends, and new places and sights.  Molly was always up for an adventure.

Molly was a constant at the Jackson Senior Center where she often exercised and socialized with friends. She loved sports and took great pride in her training and completion of four marathons. One of her greatest passions was football.  A lover of college and professional ball, her favorites included her beloved USC Trojans and the New England Patriots.

Above all Molly loved her ever growing family.  Known to her grandchildren, Connor, Arielle, Zachary, Elizabeth, Quinnten, Scarlette, and Everett, as “Grandmom” or “Mum Mum”, Molly will always be remembered for the beautiful baby blankets and Christmas stockings that she loving knitted for each one of them.

Loved by all who knew her, Molly will be remembered as a beautiful, loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

A Celebration of Life memorial for Molly is scheduled for early July 2020.
