Delmar Hill

April 27, 1930 — January 7, 2018

Delmar L. Hill, lifelong resident of Darby, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at around 10:00pm. Delmar died of natural causes in his home at the age of 87. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Friday, January 12, at 11:00am at the LDS church in Driggs, Idaho.

Delmar L. Hill was born to Dellis Glen Hill and Dora Larsen in Darby, Idaho, as the fourth of six children. He grew up on the family farm, and played a hard-working role there after his father’s passing when Delmar was 12. He graduated from Teton High School in 1948. He served in and was honorably discharged from the Idaho National Guard, at which time to devoted himself to running the farm.

Delmar married Barbara Mae Dewey in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 25, 1951, and they created a family with three children, DelRay, Steven, and Janalyn.

Delmar maintained a “grade A” dairy, raised certified seed potatoes, and instilled hard-working values into everyone he interacted with. He helped construct and worked at Grand Targhee Resort. He was an active member of the LDS church and held many positions including working with the youth for 37 years. Delmar was known for being a great neighbor and devoted his time to his wife, kids, and grandkids letting them each know they held a special place in his heart. He often accepted help on the farm from nephews whose lives he also touched.

He will be remembered especially for his large hands and heart. He touched the lives of many and will be missed by all.

Delmar leaves behind his wife, sisters Arlene Hatch and LeReta (Ted) Kelso, three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Glen and Farriel, brother-in-law Smith Hatch, and sister Treva (Jim) Dewey.
