Earnest "Earnie" SchiersOctober 25, 1939 ~ March 12, 2017 (age 77)
Earnest E. Schiers “Earnie” passed into the hands of the Lord on March 12, 2017 after a brief unexpected illness in Canon City Colorado where he lived for the past two years. Earnie was born October 25, 1939 to David E. and Lydia Zohner Schiers of Victor Idaho. The family lived in two one room log cabins with Earnie being the 12th of the 14 children. The girls lived in one cabin and the boys in the other. Earnie graduated from high school in Salmon Idaho where he played competitive basketball.
After a short military career Earnie returned to Idaho where he married Rose Pasco in 1959. They had three daughters, Patty, Evelyn, and Pam who died shortly after birth. They were later divorced. In his earlier years Earnie was a truck driver but soon became interested in working with wood. He moved to Jackson Hole Wyoming where he started working in construction. It did not take him long to become a highly skilled carpenter. He opened his own company called Double E Construction.
On September 9, 1978 Earnie married Katherine Elizabeth Talty on the top of a mountain overlooking Idaho and Wyoming. They had two sons Thomas David and Earnest Montana “Bo”. The family continued to live in Jackson until the mid-1980’s when the moved back to Victor Idaho. Double E Construction was well known in the greater Teton Valley area and beyond. Earnie’s work can be found from Pinedale to Jackson Hole and from Wilson through South Eastern Idaho. Earnie built numerous homes, log cabins, commercial buildings, and renovations. His designs and precision could be matched by few. To Earnie his carpentry was a precise art which he loved to do.
Earnie loved the mountains and could never get enough of them. He and Kitty loved to take pack trips into the mountains. We loved hearing about their interesting and often exciting trips. He was a pure Idaho boy who loved hunting, fishing and snowmobiling and just about anything outside, even mowing the lawn. To Earnie nothing was more important than family and friends. He loved Kitty to the depths of his soul. He had a heart of gold and his bright blue eyes sparkled when he laughed that most wonderful and contagious laugh! I don’t know of to many things you could ever have more pleasure to hear than his laugh. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Earnie is survived by his wife Kitty, daughters Patty of Idaho Falls; Evelyn and two grandchildren; sons Tom Schiers of Canon City Colorado; Bo and wife Molly of Holladay Utah; Sisters Grace McKay of Boise Idaho; and Margo Lewis of Victor Idaho; Brother Doug Schiers of Salt Lake City Utah; brother in law; and sisters in law; cousins, nieces and nephews and scattered all over the country and in Germany.
A visitation and memorial service under the direction of Valley Mortuary in Driggs Idaho will be held at 1:00 on July 20, 2017.
